Did You Know?

Formed in 1803, Scioto County was named after the Scioto River, which runs through it. The county seat, Portsmouth, became an important river and railroad transportation hub, as well as a manufacturing and steel-producing center. The county played a major role in Ohio’s canal system during the 19th century.
