Muskingum County

Did You Know?

Founded in 1804, Muskingum County takes its name from a Native American word meaning โ€œa town by the riverโ€. The county seat, Zanesville, was Ohioโ€™s state capital from 1810 to 1812. It became an important hub for pottery, glassware, and canal transportation, with the Muskingum River Navigation System boosting commerce.
