Established in 1840, Ottawa County was named for the Ottawa Native American tribe. Located on Lake Erie, the county became known for fishing, shipping, and tourism. The county is home to Put-in-Bay and Perry’s Victory & International Peace Memorial, commemorating a key battle in the War of 1812.
