Founded in 1808, Licking County’s name comes from the Licking River, which was historically significant to Native American communities. The county is home to Newark Earthworks, an important Hopewell culture archaeological site. Granville, within the county, is home to Denison University. Licking County has a strong history in agriculture and glass manufacturing.
