Did You Know?

Founded in 1797, Jefferson County was named after Thomas Jefferson before he became U.S. president. The county seat, Steubenville, became a major steel production center during the 19th and 20th centuries. The county was also the birthplace of Dean Martin and played a role in abolitionist movements.
