Created in 1790, Hamilton County was named for Alexander Hamilton. The county seat, Cincinnati, became one of America’s first major inland cities due to its location on the Ohio River. It was a center for meatpacking, brewing, and machine manufacturing in the 19th century. Cincinnati also played a major role in the Underground Railroad.
