Founded in 1810, Coshocton County’s name comes from a Native American word meaning “union of waters.” The county was an early center for Ohio’s canal system, particularly with the Ohio and Erie Canal running through it. The region became known for publishing, including the famous Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum, and its history in the printing and newspaper industries.
